Latest Updates from Our Project:

Pre-production Status & Rulebook Feedback Request
over 2 years ago – Mon, Nov 22, 2021 at 01:07:55 AM

Hello, everyone!

I hope you're all doing okay! Korea has officially started the "Living with Covid" regulations and finally, we're able to enjoy a cup of coffee at a nearby café and a cold drink at a local bar after 10 PM!  I hope everyone is doing well during these troubling times.

1. Rulebook. We need your help!

The rulebook is about, I'd say, 93% complete. I was hoping you can help us complete the rulebook to finally stamp "Finished" on that chapter of this journey. Read the rulebook for us and give us your constructive feedback. Tell us about what you like and don't like about the structure, the clarity, the wording, or maybe an image that's confusing, anything and everything will greatly be appreciated.

If you've read the rulebook and there are parts that are hard to understand, tell us, ask us. I feel as though for the team and I, it's been quite some time since we've needed to reference the booklet so it's become difficult to tell if parts of the Rulebook are too vague or not clear. The more people that proofread, the more I'm sure the better and more sophisticated the Rulebook will be! So, could you help us?

Base Game Rulebook

Expansion Rulebook

Click the Rulebook PDF link above and leave your comment directly on the PDF! Please try and leave the important comments/feedback about our rulebook directly on the PDF page rather than the Kickstarter comment section so we don't have trouble understanding which part you're referring to :)

We'll need enough time to reflect on the feedback before making our final revisions so we'll keep the PDF open until November 28th. Until then, if time allows, we'd appreciate your help! Thanks.

2. Backerkit Survey

Backerkit surveys will be locked on November 30th. After that, order quantities can not be changed!
You'll be able to purchase extra copies after the 30th but when you go in to make an order you'll only see the Retail version of Wild: Serengeti available for purchase. The Retail Edition will not include Stretch Goals and will need to be purchased separately.
So mark your calendars! If you are a Backer who wishes to change your order, make sure you complete it by November 30th! Change of Address on the other hand is possible after this date so don't worry :)

3. What are we doing now?

We are currently finalizing everything that goes into the pre-production phase. We are finishing our work and putting in our final touches for Sample work/Art/Playtests/Rulebook so we can put in our Mass-production order in early December.

1) Playtest : 97% Complete
We're putting full force into playtests right now. About 97% of playtesting needed has been concluded. We're now just working on the last few balance works for some of our Specialists and the co-op mode, tweaking the numbers just a bit to get it to perfection. We'll do our best in the remaining 10 days or so, so that everyone can enjoy a well-balanced game.

2) Image Production : 99% Complete
All image works have mostly been completed. Let me share with you some of the updates we've made as we've gotten to work on the feedback we collected throughout our campaign. We've finally gone and gotten them implemented into the game.

 Resource Token Makeover

We've gone ahead and changed the existing Punch-out Token design to match the Upgraded Wooden Tokens. I believe now, there will be no more room for confusion since both the Punch-out Tokens and Wooden Tokens have the same design!
The Special Effects (SFX) Tokens you see above have also been renamed to Visual Effects (VFX) Tokens. It's come to our attention that special effects are practical effects for things on set, like props, recorded directly on film. Visual effects on the other hand are effects made after the recording. As the tokens were used to ignore terrain conditions with the concept that these effects will be edited afterward, we also felt Visual Effects(VFX) was more fitting. I want to take a bit of time and thank one of our backers who brought this to our attention. Thanks so much ymbuser! For catching this and letting us know.

Fruit Icon Image Change: Cherry > Banana

As requested by several of our Backers, we've gone and edited the Fruit Icon image from the cherry to a banana. And with the change, we've also changed our Flower Icon from its original yellow color which clashes with our banana, to red.
As our backers have suggested, since the game is set in the Serengeti, we thought it would be more appropriate to use a fruit found in Africa or the Serengeti. Thanks to all our Backers who suggested the idea!

The backside of Board Complete

The image of the backside of the board has been completed! The terrain arrangement of the grassland, water, woodland, and rock varies on the new side to increase replayability.
We received a lot of feedback wanting the backside of the board to incorporate a night mode of sorts. We've gone through a few different ideas but we just couldn't do so without complicating the mechanics and it was hard to find a concept that would visually work with the other components such as the Action Board and the Rock of Ages in terms of uniformity. Our apologies for not being able to come through with this one :(

3) Sample Work : 75% Complete
We've placed a sample order for the different components excluding the meeples. So things like cards, boards, and boxes on November 8th, and completed the E-proof last week!

We expect to receive the box, cards, and board samples within the week and hope to finalize the color and quality!
Also, there are a few more meeple samples we're waiting for. We hope to receive these within the next week or so and we hope to finalize on color and make the needed changes of the meeple shapes so they do not break easily. I'll make sure to share images of the samples once they arrive!

4) Rulebook : 93% Complete
Like I've mentioned above, we will be receiving feedback from backers about the Rulebook until the 28th and update the rulebook by reflecting on the feedback we receive before Mass-production.

That's all we have for today! That was quite a lot we covered. I hope most of the updates were exciting and we hope not too many of you are upset. Thanks in advance for your feedback on our Rulebook and I hope everyone stays well and warm! We'll be back soon to share some images of those new samples :)

To finish off today's update, a fun fact about our Secretary Bird.
Did you know that snakes are Secretary Bird's favorite meal? Even the poisonous ones! The scales on the lower parts of their legs protect them in the chance one was ever to come and try to bite.

BackerKit Surveys are Coming!
over 2 years ago – Thu, Oct 14, 2021 at 11:37:31 PM

Hello, Everyone!!!

Long time no see :) It's been just about a month since our Kickstarter came to a close.

We've all spent our Holidays well, and are heavy in works with game developments.

1. BackerKit surveys are coming

Soon, you’ll receive an email from us with a special link to your BackerKit survey. Completing the pledge manager is ESSENTIAL in order for us to fulfill your pledge.

1) What does Pledge Manager do?

  • We’ll be collecting information crucial to shipping, such as your address and your final list of chosen products, via the pledge manager.  If the Pledge Manager is not completed, we cannot ship your Rewards to you.
  • Also, shipping fees along with VAT for backers in the EU/UK regions will be paid through Pledge Manager.
  • In addition, you'll be able to purchase Add-on(s) or additional copies of the game through Pledge Manager. If you are a Kickstarter Backer(including $1 pledge backers!) will be able to purchase additional copies or add-on(s) at the same rate as our Kickstarter Pledge.

2) When?

  • Survey Opens: October 18th
Next week from Oct 18th through Oct 22nd, all Backers will receive an email with a special link to your BackerKit survey.
For the smoke test(where a random sampling of 5% of the backers will get the pledge manager early), about 200 backers will receive a survey email this week.

  • Survey Closes: November 30th
The pledge manager will be open for about 1 month. It will close on November 30th. After that date, you may no longer be able to edit your pledge. However, you can still change your shipping address after November 30th.

3) How do I complete the pledge manager?

  • You don’t need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey. When you receive the email with the survey, click the survey link to respond. Answer the questions about your reward preferences, provide shipping information, and purchase add-on items if you'd like. You don’t have access to this survey link yet, but it will be available soon via email!
  • After you respond to your survey, you can go back later and change your responses at any time before we close the surveys and get our final counts.
  • If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https://wildserengeti.backerkit.com.
  • If you used your Facebook credentials to log in to your Kickstarter account, the BackerKit survey is sent to the email address you use for your Facebook account. If you have another email address that you prefer to use, please contact support at https://wildserengeti.backerkit.com/faq.

2. Timeline

Let us share with you our campaign timeline. Our Kickstarter campaign page states the Individual Fulfillment is scheduled for completion, July 30th. But, as many of you already know, we are in the midst of one of the worst global shipping crises ever. There are millions of containers stuck at ports that are working under capacity. With shipments that cost $3,000 in January jumping to $25,000 per container. With the pandemic having closed ports around the world, with record numbers of cargo stuck at port, shipping out the products seems to be the biggest challenge we have yet to face.

So, with no one in the world who can guarantee us when a shipment will leave and/or arrive, it's hard for us to tell you without a doubt that the products will be in your hands by July 30th.
In the midst of this logistics crisis, the delivery status of our previous game, Shaolia 2nd Edition, which completed delivery in 2021, was as follows:

  • Production Completed Early April 2021
  • Individual shipments in AU/NZ began at the end of June
  • Individual shipments in China/Hong Kong started beginning of July. With all other Asian Countries off by the end of July/late August, according to each countries hub transit time.
  • Individual shipments in the UK started by the early July
  • Individual shipments in the EU began at the end of July
  • Individual shipment in the US/CA/RotW began late September with Canada early October.

It may be a meaningless assumption, but if the situation in 2022 will be the same as 2021, Australian/Asian/UK/EU backers will be able to receive their products by the end of July. However, backers in the US/Canada/RotW, who are undergoing severe logistics delays, may receive their products late September to early October.

Again, no one on this planet can predict next year's logistics. You may even be able to receive the products even later or possibly way earlier than what I've mentioned here. What we can promise to you right now is that, as soon as we know, we'll be here to let you know. Till then, we do appreciate your patience and understanding.

      3. What we are doing now?

Currently, we are in our pre-production stage, checking product qualities through four main categories, 1)Playtest, 2) Art, 3) Sample work, and 4)Rulebook

1) Playtesting : 80% Complete

Wild: Serengeti was created through intensive playtests through a great deal of time. With the existing balance well established, our team now is conducting intensive balance tests on the stretch goals that were opened with your help during our campaign. Playtests for the added 13 specialists, Scene Cards, and backside of the game board are underway with the game being verified from various angles so that both beginners and skilled players will be able to enjoy a well-balanced game.

2) Image Production: 90% Complete

We are working on the art for the additional specialists, Scene Cards, boxes, and boards.

We'll be back to share the art as soon as they're finalized!

3) Sample Work: 50% Complete

Before Mass-production we proceed with samples to determine final quality. Wild has already been through a prototype phase in early 2021 with the whole copy including meeples to verify its quality.
From October to November, a)Sample work on meeples and components newly added during the Kickstarter campaign, b) Sample work on boxes/cards will also go through sample works once the final art has been determined.

Just today! We've got our samples in for the meeples added through Stretch Goals! Want to check them out?
※Note: The samples in the photo below were printed with digital printing, which is different than the actual printing method that will be used for the final copies. The color and clarity of printing may differ considerably from the actual result, so please take this into consideration.

  •  Stretch goal Animal meeples : Color and size are subjected to change.

  • Existing meeple modification/color check.

The lion's belly was revised to be a bit darker, and the wildebeest adjusted to be a bit softer in color.

  • Cloth bag

  • First player marker

There were instances where the existing player marker would disassemble by itself when used multiple times. Therefore, we made a new punchboard First Player Marker sample that can be assembled to be sturdier. I think I like this better because it's a lot sturdier than the existing model.

  • Wooden First player marker

  • Card Sleeve

Card sleeves will be 100micron. Plenty sturdy.

  • Paper Insert

This was not from the manufacturers, but a sample made by our team with paper. The material and thickness will be different in our final copies!

All cards can be stored sleeved with Upgraded Wooden Tokens also storable. Extra Set of Meeples is not for in-game use so it's recommended they are stored separately.

4) Rulebook work: 80% Complete

The finalization of the rulebook will be scheduled once playtests have been concluded.

Today's update will conclude here.

And constant updates might be perceived by some as spam, so we plan to post a Post Kickstarter Update about once a month. Of course, there may be exceptions for important and/or urgent matters.

We're always here to check on comments and Kickstarter messages, so if you have questions let us know!

We can't forget about our fun fact to finish each update.

Today's will be about Hyenas!

Did you know that Hyenas can count? Research shows they are able to count at least up to 3.

That's all for today.

Best,

Bad Comet

Thank you. From the bottom of our hearts.
over 2 years ago – Tue, Sep 28, 2021 at 07:37:20 PM

Hi Everyone!

What seemed like would be a long 30-day journey flew by and has finally come to an end. The last 30 days were filled with you! We laughed together in the comments, applauded our many poets, and really put our heads together to create the best possible Stretch Goals. They have been the busiest but the happiest moments of this year.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of our backers who have participated. I'd like to say, that out of all the Kickstarter campaigns you have been not only the most active but cheerful, most passionate, excited group of backers we've ever met. It was a pleasure meeting you and a forever experience getting to know you.

Tears aside, shall we take a moment to commemorate the great achievements we have made together?

We raised 242,387 dollars and have recruited 4,936 backers. A total of 21 amazing Stretch Goals were unlocked, and 8 beautiful animals were able to join us in the wild Serengeti. We've also achieved another amazing result, over 10,000 comments were collected in our comment section throughout our campaign. As many of you might already know, this number is a number only seen in multi-million dollar campaigns. Once again, my tribute to your amazing participation.

Now, the Bad Comet team is preparing for a quick hibernation. A time to settle our mixed emotions. From September 18th to September 22nd is a traditional Thanksgiving holiday in South Korea called "Chu-seok". All members of the team will have this time to visit their families, enjoy delicious foods, and have the time to recover their bodies and minds. Maybe catch up on some of that much need sleep😊. There will be no additional updates during this period, and we will not be responding to comments and/or messages. We please ask for your understanding in advance. Thank you.

After the Thanksgiving holidays, we'll be back to slowly reveal to you updates about progress, future project schedules, our plans for the 2nd side of the map, and co-op mode as they are finalized. So this is a "to be continued" and not "the end"😊.

Today's fun fact to end today's update will be about the Bad Comet team many of our backers were curious about!

Did you know that Bad Comet has 5 team members?

We are a small Korean board game studio founded by Gunho Kim and Hani Chang. Officially registered and established as a company in January 2020. It hasn't been too long huh?

Gunho is our lead game designer for Bad Comet and is also in charge of business development and marketing. A fun fact about Gunho is, he drove a bus when he served in the army so he knows his way around a big bus or truck!🚌

Hani is our Art Director for Bad Comet and in charge of the campaign planning and production & logistics management. Fun fact about Hani is, she likes a good party 😊 She said she made a bet with friends and won after drinking 23 shots of tequila😆.

Sophia is Bad Comet's Artist. All the beautiful animals from Wild: Serengeti was born from her fingertips!😍  A fun fact about Sophia is, she actually majored in business administration in college and studied painting on her own!  😲

Lucya is Bad Comet's Community Manager! She's the one who responds to your comments and messages you leave for us😎 Fun Fact about Lucya is, she was a PNW native for 20 years before coming to Korea! A true Washingtonian and an Oregonian at heart🧡

Minho is Bad Comet's Junior Game Designer. Still working hard to make sure Wild is balanced. A fun fact about Minho(Also known as Playmaker😉) is he is a very, very good gamer. It's said that he was once 'Master' tier of a game called League of Legends. 👍

Thank you for making one of the happiest months possible.

With love,

Bad Comet Team

Last 24 hours + Vote Results + Specialist Card Contest Winners
over 2 years ago – Wed, Sep 22, 2021 at 02:22:53 AM

1. The Last 24 Hours of our Campaign

Now, there are only 24 hours left of our campaign.

The 48 Hour rush seems like it's coming in full force and we're now settling into our last 24.

Let's see what the next 24 hours hold for us and our campaign!

2. Python and Secretary Bird Unlocked!

The Python and Secretary Bird have been unlocked. One of our Backers mentioned to us that this may be the FIRST time the Secretary bird is featured in a board game! Historical moment indeed! Thanks, Daniel😉! (We're not yet 100% sure if this is so but we'd like to live in the moment😍)

Can you believe that we've unlocked 8 extra animeeples? Who could have guessed that this campaign could have brought us this far?

And.... what's next, you ask?

To tell you the truth the 200,000 Stretch Goal was going to be our last. We didn't think we could even make it this far. Let me tell you that this morning was a SURPRISE. Thank you. Funding is still increasing, and we see you in the comments❤. So We thought let's prepare one last one! This time it's real!

Can I please get a drum roll? 🥁🥁🥁

I would like to introduce to you, one of our characters with the biggest fan base, B to the I to the T to the E to the Y! BITEY!!!!

Finally, after much consideration, we have decided to officially add Bitey to the game! If you've stopped by our comment section you might have been able to see that our little crocodile hatchling that spotlighted our unlocked Stretch Goals was collecting a pretty good fan base that he even got his very own name! Bitey! There were talks about where we could include him but we thought this would be a great way to include Bitey but also provide our amazing backers with an upgrade!

This little score token will come in 4s and will be a Wooden Token Upgrade included in every Promo Pack!

Isn't he adorable? He's nesting on a golden egg😉 I'm sure there can't be a better motivator to score an even higher Documentary Score.

Now, with only 24 Hours lefts to go, let's get to unlocking this hatchling!

If you're one of our $1 Pledgers, I kindly ask that you consider upgrading to the full $52 pledge before the campaign ends and help us unlock Bitey!

3. Monkey Vote Results

Now on to the results for our Monkey Votes.

We had an amazing 576 total backers participate and with 339 votes, our Baboons received their very own space in the Wild: Serengeti family!

Mind you, no one's feedback is lost, the art team is reading each and every one of them😁

Samples are due to be ordered and depending on how well or mismatched the colors look at the pre-production stage, we will be considering color modifications to balance them with the other animeeples.

Thanks so much for everyone's input!

4. The Long-Awaited Specialist Card Contest Results!

Thanks to the Social Stretch Goal that was unlocked, we were able to include 3 ideas from the Backer Designed Specialist Card Contest!

Bad Comet team members including our Main Designer and Junior Designer along with playtesters who have been with us from the earliest stages of game development, participated as judges for the contest. In addition, the top 10 or so ideas that made it to the finals were playtested at least 1 to 2 times to ensure no unexpected issues arise.

We thank each and every contestant for your participation and our deepest regrets for not being able to include every idea in the game.

Now, on to the announcement! There's no specific order and there are no rankings among the three chosen. Now, drum roll, please! 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁

1. Stephan Kyle

TV PRESENTER: Score "Animal" icons the same way you score "Like" icons

Congratulations! A very simple but amazing idea. I'm not sure why our team hasn't thought of this before!

After a number of playtests we have refined the Specialist's Ability as follows:

"Gain Points based on the number of Animal Icons collected by the end of the game."

6~8 Icons: 15 Points

9~12 Icons: 20 Points

13~15 Icons: 25 Points

16~19 Icons: 30 Points

20+ Icons: 40 Points

2. Lucy Nicholls

The Conservationist: Gain 3 stars every time you complete a scene that features multiple of the same animal.

Congratulations! This idea was a creative one that added new layers to the strategy while still being very unique and fun! A score of 3 was also very appropriate so our team did not undertake any modifications for this idea. But, future playtests will be conducted and we will make sure to refine the idea, if needed, in order to make sure the balance is not hindered.

3. Yuanyi Tai & Mark Carter

Museum curator or Sponsor Gain : Bonus stars for having multiple copies of the seven icons from the scene cards in your video gallery upon game completion. (Disregard rare diamond icon)

Congratulations!

This one was a unique one in that it was a joint win.

Of course, we did put out a rule that whoever comments an idea first will be chosen as the winner.

However, as I mentioned, this case was a bit unique. Our backer Yuanyi Tai first commented the idea, if you collected all the tags, you can score. But our Backer Mark Carter came up with an idea that was closest to the final Specialist ability.

There was a lot of thought as to who to crown as the winner for this idea. One to comment a broader idea first? Or one to comment the closest idea to the final? As a result, we decided to award them as joint winners for this idea!

Both Yuanyi Tai and Mark Carter's names will be featured on this Specialist Card.

After testing, the idea was modified as such:

Gain 20 points per following set upon game completion.

1 Leaf, 1 Flower, 1 Fruit, 1 Food, 1 SFX, 1 Like, 1 Animal

Once again, I would like to congratulate everyone's idea that was selected, and we will be by with a separate Kickstarter Message for your reviewal.

Also, I would like to say once again that we are deeply regretful that we are unable to incorporate every one of your valuable ideas. And we cannot be more grateful for your participation. Please don't hate us too much.😰

Now, on to today's fun fact!  We will be showcasing our newest addition, Python!

Did you know that pythons have heat-sensing pits around the lips? They are used to help the python detect warm-blooded prey! At night these pits allow them to "see" as infrared cameras do!  Cool right?

That's everything for today's update. I'll see you guys soon!

Box Art Unlocked!
over 2 years ago – Sat, Sep 18, 2021 at 08:35:11 PM

The Box Art Goal has been unlocked!

A beautiful image will now be added to the sides of the bottom box. As soon as the art is developed and ready with finishing touches, I'll be back to show it off.

The next Stretch Goal is our Buffalo!

Many of our backers have mentioned the Serengeti Big 5. We hope Buffalo can join us on our journey and complete the Big 5!

I also wanted to take some time today and answer some of the most frequent and progressively asked questions. Hopefully, this will help clear some of the questions you had for us!

1. How will the additional animals from Stretch Goals be used in the game?

This is something we are fully focused on right now and heavily playtesting. Although the abilities are not yet 100% confirmed, there were many backers who were curious. So though, premature, I wanted to share what we have in the works. Since it is currently undergoing various balance tests, the abilities are subjected to change.

[How to use the Animal Specialist Card]

  1. Animals added alongside the Specialist cards provide benefits only to the players who choose the specific animal Specialist. Other players will be able to move the added animals by using actions or food tokens, but they do not receive any particular benefits from them.
  2. Players who choose an Animal Specialist card can use their animals as follows.
  3. Place the animal wherever you'd like on the map when the game starts.
  4. You can move the animal 1 to 3 spaces as a free action for each turn. The free action can only be performed once per turn.
  5. Animals added by Specialist Cards are not affected by the Great Migration Cards.

[Examples of Additional Animal Specialist Card Ability]

  • If the Ostrich is placed in the same straight line when completing a Straight Line Scene Card, earn 4 additional points.
  • The Warthog can be placed on spaces already occupied by other animals. The space that the Warthog is occupying can be recognized as any terrain type when completing a Scene Card. In other words, the Warthog will act as a moving SFX token!

2. 5-6 Player expansion

I should have mentioned this in advance, and I apologize for the delay. The 5-6 Player Expansion, which we did see that topped the fanmade poll a backer had upload for everyone in our comment section, sad to say, cannot be implemented. Our game has very high player interaction, so when 5 or 6 people play, the game may not work at all. More than needing to add additional components, the game mechanism itself is not established to incorporate these numbers. So, unfortunately, we will not be able to move forward with this idea.

3. 2nd side of the Game Board

The Second Side of the Game Board added at our $85,000 Stretch Goal has been in the works and in playtests and plans are in order but the artwork has not yet begun. The team is quite busy with the campaign, Stretch Goals, playtests, and sample work so I'll share with you as soon as we get the backside of that board finished out. Thanks for your patience!

Fun Fact for today's update will be on our Round Tracker Hornbill!

Did you know that Hornbills are a monkey's best friend? Apparently, the hornbills help monkeys by eating the insects that annoy them to in return, the monkeys help our little hornbills by warning them with their calls when they see danger!

That's it for today's update. See you real soon!
